We designed a Homeless Sleeping Bag!

Award-Winning Designer

Award-winning designer “Donna Mae” Baukat is founder of Baukat Enterprises LLC, which is registered in the State of Colorado as of June 26, 2017. The company designs and develop new products for improved living in Homelessness–especially, during winters in cold climates.

“Donna Mae” Baukat is a Fiber Arts Designer. She created an innovative sleeping bag worn as a coat and it includes a portable tent for one person.

A small group of individuals who cannot find shelter in the winter have helped to create an innovative sleeping bag that may be worn as a coat when not asleep. The individual one-person tent is conveniently stored in a waterproof pocket of the shin-length coat. It is compact and lightweight. The less to carry, the less weight to lug around–a homeless camper will find it easier to pickup and leave where he/she was spending the night or day sleeping.

CCOP Community Compassion Outreach Program of Durango Christian Church was initiated by Mrs. Baukat who is the executive director. In affiliation with CCOP, Baukat Enterprises works closely with Jon Alsdorf to find protective winter clothing, sleeping bags and accessories for the winter seasons. The beauty of being a designer in our affiliation is for mutual benefit and objective to preserve a life of the Homeless!

Work-to-Earn Program

A Wearable Sleeping Bag/Tent is not handed out to the Homeless. The product will be earned in a Work-to-Earn Program. Each recipient will spend a few hours in volunteer or for-pay jobs in our community of La Plata County. A person who cannot work due to disability will receive the product without charge, and a Sponsor may donate it to a person of ADA.

The majority of winter gear sold on the market are unaffordable, or too cumbersome for someone traversing hillsides in the Rockies, where the unsheltered are camping through the winter. Durango and La Plata County is home to nearly 100 winter homeless campers.

While we are raising funds to make our innovative sleeping gear, you can help us buy winter-gear. Check out CRITICAL SUPPLY BANK page.

Without enough shelters, and the barriers that prevent entrance into an available emergency shelter, our winters (though mild in comparison to higher elevations) presents life-threatening exposures to cold winds, rain, snowfall, freezing temperatures, and occasional landslides/avalanches.

Homeless campers do not have winter-rated sleeping bags to help them survive temperatures below freezing.

The City of Durango is 6,250 Ft. elevation where winter temperatures suddenly drop to -10 to -15 Degrees Fahrenheit. The ground up here is rocky and cold; people who camp our winters use insulated pads and layers of clothing to keep warm.

It is the reason that Donna Mae designed a wearable sleeping bag for the homeless who remain in their camps in tents. In the interim of developing and producing the wearable sleeping bag, Baukat Enterprises will partner with local nonprofits and the private sector to supply critical winter supplies.

The Homeless will find a space just to sleep. Baukat’s tent/shield is lightweight, stakes on the inside, NO SeeUm! Low profile for wind resistance. Water-resistant. A lightweight waterproof tarp will add another layer of protection against wind, rain and snow.

If you are interested in partnering with Community Compassion Outreach Program and Baukat Enterprises, we welcome any help you may offer.

We look forward to your comments and any suggestions for products that you have in mind to protect, shield, and serve a person whose home is not fit for habitation in America.
